Lenny O’Donnell is Preserving Rowing History

Holding an old canister in his hands, rower and documentary film producer Lenny O’Donnell’s heart skipped a beat. He read “Berlin 1936” written on an old piece of athletic tape stuck to its lid. After years in storage, unseen for several decades, Lenny was entrusted to restore and digitize the film, along with boxes full of other historic photos, film, and ephemera documenting the University of Washington crew in the early 20th century. To share it all, he created RowingArchives.org.

Allies with Oars: Racing with Purpose

Creating truly inclusive racing opportunities.
Our Allies with Oars initiative promotes inclusion and accessibility for all rowers, regardless of gender identity. We race competitive mixed lineups at major regattas, opening up seats in boats for trans and nonbinary athletes. In 2024 we took on a massive 88k coastal challenge at Race Around the Rock, and returned to Boston for the third consecutive year to row the Head of the Charles Directors' Challenge Mixed8+.

When we started Steady State Network in 2020, we wondered “will anyone notice?” We owe a HUGE thanks to everyone who has noticed, supported, encouraged, had fun, and pushed boundaries with us.
