Julien Bahain’s Lifetime of Seeking Perfect Moments
Inspired by his parents from an early age to work hard, Julien Bahain became a 3-time Olympian and an Olympic medalist. He’s been involved with rowing for 25 years, taking on multiple disciplines including flat water, coastal, and ocean rowing. Along with his wife Katie, Julien is now the owner and co-founder of West Coast Rowing Adventures, and together their goal is to grow coastal rowing and share the beauty of British Columbia.
Giving and Getting Support: Burnham Boat Slings’ Peter Kermond
Peter Kermond has been the face and voice of Burnham Boat Slings since purchasing the business in 1999. When he's not in the shop, or out rowing, he is probably manning a Burnham booth at a regatta. That’s where we met him – at Head of the Charles – in 2022, just a month after he survived a widow maker heart attack. Peter and his wife Carin Reynolds are both successful national team and masters rowers and high school coaches. They are a testament to teamwork, as they navigated Peter’s health emergency and rehabilitation, and his return to racing.
RowAlong Founder John Steventon on Rowing, Rubbish, and Racing
Indoor rowing popularity has exploded since early days of the COVID pandemic in 2020, with a whole new rowing community coming together around the erg, buoyed in large part by people who have never touched an oar. John Steventon – a gold medal and world record holding indoor rower – started to make rowing workout videos during lockdown, and his RowAlong YouTube channel soared to popularity. Today it boasts hundreds of fun, imaginative rowing workouts.

Isaiah Harrison is a huge talent in the next generation of American single scullers. Born and raised in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, he started erging when he was just 12 and today, this 6’9” 19-year-old currently holds 35 indoor rowing world records. Isaiah made the transition from the erg to a single, coached by his Dad. Independent of a school program or community club, he’s climbed the ladder to the U23 National team and was named the 2022 USRowing U23 National Team Male Athlete of the Year.

Allison Mueller is many things including a highly competitive masters rower, a successful business owner, and former communications director for USRowing. Her most recent “Baby on Board” marketing campaign has really got us enamored. Allison recently announced that she’s expecting a baby early in the new year, and wrapped up the 2022 season having rowed 15 races, 14 of them with her +1.

Rowing helped get him his first job, and introduced him to the woman who would become his wife. Today, Brent’s personal and professional philosophy is all about getting more people in boats, and sharing life lessons learned from rowing.

Like many women who grew up before Title IX, Kathy Frederick spent her young life studying ballet. When, at 42, she learned to row it felt like dancing with partners and she was immediately hooked. Just a few years later in 1993, the loss of a dear friend prompted Kathy to host a fundraising event on the Willamette River. From those modest beginnings Row for the Cure was born.
